Are You A First Time Pup Parent? Get These Dog Vaccinations!

by Leonard Wallace

Vaccinations are an incontestable part of owning a pet. And if you recently got a puppy, it is vital to ensure that your pup gets all the needed vaccinations while they are still young, or you could end up having to contend with serious diseases that could be fatal. However, not all furry parents are aware of what vaccinations are crucial. To avoid any misunderstanding, read on for a few of the dog vaccinations that your pup will definitely need!

Vaccination for distemper

This may sound like a condition that causes your dog to be ill-tempered but this is far from the truth. Distemper is what causes measles in your canine. This airborne disease is contagious and once your dog inhales it, the disease affects its tonsils as well as its lymph nodes. If left unchecked, the disease makes it ways to other systems in your dog's body such as the gastrointestinal system, respiratory system, nervous system and so on. The symptoms of a dog infected with distemper include diarrhoea, lethargy, vomiting and even seizures! Therefore, it is inadvisable to skip a distemper shot.

Vaccination for rabies

This disease is transmitted via bites from infected animals. However, if you do not keep a keen eye on your dog all day, there is a risk of them contracting it, more so if your dog is permitted to roam free. Infected animals typically manifest symptoms such as extreme aggression, seizures and fever. If your dog is infected and subsequently bites, you, there is a high risk of you contracting the disease since this is a dog illness that affects humans. Unlike other vaccinations that come in a bundle, rabies is administered on its own. Be sure to visit your vet as soon as possible once you have gotten your pup.

Vaccination for hepatitis

The canine variety of hepatitis can prove to be a death sentence for your pet. This illness causes a substantial degree of damage to the liver, which leads to the swelling of this organ. When left undiagnosed, canine hepatitis causes cell damage in the animals' liver, leading to liver failure. A few of the symptoms that are associated with canine hepatitis are extreme lethargy, incredible pain in the abdomen and a complete loss of appetite. Your dog may even look pale. You should note that in some cases, canine hepatitis is confused for parvovirus since both diseases cause vomiting and lethargy. However, proper diagnosis is needed or both can be fatal. Thus, it is critical to take your dog to the vet immediately for vaccination or treatment if already infected.

The Lifespan Cycle Of Vet Care For Dogs

I never had the opportunity to have a pet when I was a child because my family moved around a lot. So, when my kids begged to get a dog, I was super excited. However, not knowing anything about the care of canines, I had to do a lot of research to make sure we kept our puppy healthy. This blog is all about the vet side of taking care of dogs. From annual vaccinations to what signs should trigger an emergency vet visit, I wanted to make sure that all new dog owners are aware of how important regular vet care is when it comes to raising a pet.
